On this episode of IR Update, Amanda Munhoz interviewed Simon McGough from Wood PLC. Simon discusses techniques to tell a good IR story and the company’s plans to improve ESG reporting this year.
To start, they have put ESG at the center of their equity story, combining the old world of oil and gas with the new world of sustainability. For example, they have a KPI of the percentage of their revenue that comes from sustainable solutions. This is a great way to make the ESG story come alive.
As to how to engage investors in a challenging year, Simon gives some great advice: Have a story, make it simple, and tell it all the time. Of course, the story depends on the business, but keeping it simple is the IR job, along with a good communication strategy, using annual reports, results, presentations, websites, meetings, etc., and being consistent and telling it all the time.
As for engagement, never underestimate the phone calls with analysts and investors, but use the technology available for IR. The website, the webcasts, video content, and more. Investor days should also have a well-thought virtual component, including q&A and feedback requests via the app.
